Max Lucado is one of the
prominent Christian speakers involved in sharing his passion and commitment to
God and loves to share this experience with others. Jack Lucado was the
youngest of four children born to Jack and Thelma Lucado in San Angelo, Texas.
He was born and raised in Andrews, Texas. His father, who was of Italian
origin, worked in the oil fields, while his mother worked as a nurse. Lucado
obtained his bachelor's degree in mass communication from Abilene Christian
University. Lucado supported himself while at Abilene Christian University by
selling books door-to-door through the Southwestern Advantage business
programme. At first, he wanted to be a lawyer, but a required Bible course at
university and a mission trip convinced him to alter his mind and become a
missionary instead. However, this is not the case. He became a minister at the
Oak Hills Church of Christ in San Antonio, Texas, in 1988. In 1990, he ceased
receiving a salary from the church because he was already a well-known and
popular author. Oak Hills began using musical instruments in worship services
during his tenure and held the belief that baptism was not required for
salvation (both of which are contrary to two key doctrines of the Churches of
Christ); eventually, Oak Hills dropped its affiliation with them in 2003,
renaming itself simply "Oak Hills Church."
Lucado revealed
in early 2007 that he was stepping down as senior minister at Oak Hills Church
in San Antonio, TX, after 20 years of service owing to health concerns related
to atrial fibrillation. Lucado has subsequently returned to Oak Hills, where he
co-ministers with Randy Frazee, previously of Willow Creek Community Church in
South Barrington, in a more limited ministry role of writing and preaching.
Lucado has published around 100 books, which have sold over 130 million copies
worldwide. He received the Charles "Kip" Jordon Gold Medallion
Christian Book of the Year award three times [11] for his works Just Like
Jesus, In the Grip of Grace, and When God Whispers Your Name, and he has also
appeared on multiple bestseller lists, including the New York Times Best Seller
List. Lucado was chosen "America's Pastor" by Christianity Today
magazine and "The Best Preacher in America" by Reader's Digest in
2005. He's appeared on Fox News Channel, NBC Nightly News, Larry King Live,
LLBN, and USA Today, among others. He has delivered a keynote address at the
National Prayer Breakfast. If you are looking for a Max Lucado Booking
